Halos for Bread continues the exploration begun in Punctum Contra Punctum and Becoming a Seed — looking again at disorientation caused by migration, and at what grounds the mind when it cannot find its place.
Ceramic forms, shaped like halos, are made to hold bread. The halo — a symbol of the sacred and of the sun — here becomes domestic. A ritual object for everyday use.
The ritual is baking. Before moving to Switzerland, I never baked bread. This practice was born here, out of a need to feel at home somewhere. In my family, one of the expressions of love is the desire to feed. Baking and sharing became a way of being present — temporarily stable, temporarily grounded from the disorientation.
Both bread and ceramics pass through fire. Both require time, warmth, and patience. Together they form a single gesture: an attempt to hold something, in a moment when holding on feels difficult.
