Becoming a Seed explores migration as a process of rooting — through the ritual of working with wheat, grain, and bread.Using Ukrainian grain and flour, the work traces bread-making as a metaphor for forming new identity: from seed to sprout, from growth to transformation, from raw grain to a piece of bread baked by hand. Each sculpture corresponds to a different stage of this process.
To develop the forms, the artist grows sprouts from Ukrainian grain, observing their growth before translating their shapes into sculpture. The works can exist independently or in dialogue with video — footage of a fountain filmed in Rivne, Ukraine, projected directly onto the grain. Water falling on seed: growth through new conditions.
The project asks what it means to carry your origin with you, and how to build yourself somewhere new.
